The digital prototype is created by Juliet Chou to show the possibility of building a GIS “story map” to accompany Susan Huang‘s book project. The story mapping application can not only help capture the flow of ideas presented in the book but also trace the transmission of activities and connect places, people, things, and events over a particular period of time.  Regardless of the background of readers, they may walk through the story at their own pace, in an ordered manner.  As the story builds in each stage, readers would be able to see the maps updated and understand the overall narrative progressively.  We will create different layers of maps featuring printing centers, Buddhist temples, and Mongol postal system and so on.  The visual exploration is ideal for making in-depth stories more accessible for readers to navigate. You may view or download a PDF version here.
